A corner market perched on the edge of downtown’s Burnett Park recently transitioned to a welcoming, airy cafe serving thoughtfully prepared dishes. Sipping selections from the extensive by-the-glass wine list, we scooped addictive smoked pimiento cheese studded with candied jalapeños onto savory sopaipilla chips and Tajín-laced ranch crackers. Because you can never have too much cheese, we also shared house-made burrata atop local baby tomatoes and microgreens drizzled with just enough balsamic vinaigrette. Seared halibut over buttery braised leeks and fennel was our somewhat virtuous main choice, while nubby ground elk meatballs in a nest of egg noodles a la Stroganoff was the dish to make us feel warm and cozy.
