A Great Week

"AND THAT SPELLS 'DALLAS,' MY DARLIN', DARLIN' DALLAS" In the minds of many folks, Dallas will forever be associated with a hit television show and braggadocio, but Big D is more than simply a place to spot big hair and pay homage to other stereotypes. It's a wellspring of culture, from museums and theater to fine restaurants and nightlife, and we've got the perfect week for you to experience that and the usual big-city happenings: October 23 through October 29. Begin your holiday on Tuesday at the Dallas Theater Center's opening night production of The Front Page , the tale of a talented young reporter who finds himself in the middle of the biggest story around. On Wednesday at the Wyndham Anatole, Sam Donaldson will interview pianist Van Cliburn at a benefit for the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The Texas Stampede , a four-day PRCA rodeo, comes to town on Thursday, featuring top names in rodeo like Fred Whitfield and Dan Mortensen (see picture), the 1997 World Champion All-around Cowboy. Kick up your heels Friday night to the sounds of Robert Earl Keen and Willie Nelson at the American Airlines Center. On Saturday watch the SMU Mustangs take on the UTEP Miners at the Gerald J. Ford Stadium, which opened last year. In Texas one can never get enough football: On Sunday see the Dallas Cowboys play the Arizona Cardinals. On your last day, witness Dallas Blooms Autumn —more than one million chrysanthemum blossoms—at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. And if your curiosity gets the best of you, Southfork isn't too far away. See Dallas.
