Some savvy inmates in the Liberty County jail rewired some of the jail’s televisions and watched pornography behind bars for months.

KPRC’s Stephen Dean, who broke the story, reported that the prison guards were aware that the inmates were enjoying these “nightly porno shows.”

The issues were discussed in jail logbooks and internal emails that Dean obtained. A February 3 entry read, “4 Dorm watching porno channel again.” Three days later, another jailer had the same complaint: “One of the TV’s had porn on it. Told them to change the channel.”

Richard Connelly of the Houston Press summed up how the prison handled the porn issue this way: “Some jailers noticed and didn’t care, other jailers noticed and reported it to supervisors who didn’t care.”

Dean pointed out that this is the same prison where the men arrested for the Cleveland gang rape last year are being held.

It appears that the inmates accessed the soft-core pornography by plugging a cable directly into the television. The cable company has visited a prison and supposedly put a stop to the smut.

This news led the Beaumont Enterprise‘s Bayou blog to quip, “No wonder recidivism rates are through the roof.”
