We’re not sure if more strange things necessarily happen in Lufkin than in other small towns, but the person behind the Lufkin Daily News’ s police blotter has a great appreciation for the absurd.
The crime in Lufkin ranges from the very mundane to the very bizarre, and nearly each day the police blotter seems to contain a new gem. We’ve compiled our favorites from August below:
A woman’s fanny pack was stolen off her after she was reportedly attacked by man Tuesday night. The woman told police the man asked her for a cigarette and then threw her to the ground. He then stole her fanny pack and fled. The fanny pack contained more than $700 in bank cards, money orders, and gift cards.
A forklift was reported stolen from a job site overnight Tuesday and used to destroy a metal shed. The forklift was later found abandoned.
A green plastic teddy bear shaped piggy bank was reported stolen in a home burglary.
A woman reported being scammed by someone to whom she sold a Samsung tablet on Craigslist. The person offered the woman $150 more than her asking price, but after shipping it to them in Lagos, Nigeria, she never received payment via PayPal.
A woman told police her decorative bird house was damaged by vandals.
A landlord told police that a tenant, whom the landlord was in the process of evicting, used an electric skillet and a hotplate in an attempt to cause fire damage to the rent house.
A woman was found passed out in front of a bail bonds business and arrested for public intoxication.
Tartar sauce was reportedly put on the door of a vehicle Wednesday.
A woman complained to Lufkin Police that someone poured syrup on her pickup windows overnight Friday.
Five bags of deer corn were reportedly stolen Sunday from Walmart by an unidentified man.
A flower pot was reported stolen overnight Saturday from a home.
A woman told Lufkin Police that someone had stolen her Pomeranian puppy, with brown and white spots, Tuesday.
After falling asleep on the couch Wednesday, a subject awoke to find a wallet missing.
