DNA testing has exonerated several citizens who were wrongfully convicted decades ago, and in many cases it has also identified the actual perpetrators. Yet the law prevents us from prosecuting the criminals because of the statute of limitations. We need to amend the statutes to allow us to prosecute these individuals today. It is incomprehensible to me to allow someone who committed a heinous crime two or three decades ago to get away with it just because we did not have the science to catch them back then. These people need to be held accountable.
