See the Future of Education

See the Future of Education
Betty Sue Flowers

We need a twenty-first-century education system: national presenters who teach via video and occasional visits; local discussion facilitators; evaluators who create tests and diagnose local learning challenges; designers who craft curricula and adapt learning modules to individual students; and school leaders who coordinate the school day. Computers, classrooms, and teachers would be available all year round, no required homework, and no set vacation days. The child who is caught up can join a Tuesday trip in April to see the wildflowers and then get further ahead by taking work home for Saturday afternoon. Imagine.

Flowers is the director of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum at the University of Texas at Austin.
