Is all of Hollywood putting down roots in Austin? Hot on the heels of news that Taylor Kitsch is building a house by the lake in Austin comes word that Matthew McConaughey has returned to his old stomping grounds.

McConaughey told an assembled crowd at the Texas Film Hall of Fame Thursday night that he has moved back to Austin, this time with his fiancée Camila Alves, their two children, Levi and Vida, and his future mother-in-law in tow.

“No one recognizes you and no one asks you, ‘Hey, what do you do?,’ because I don’t think anyone cares,” McConaughey said of Austin’s low-key vibe. “Fridays show up sooner here. You want to get along in Austin, you want to get along in Texas, all you have to do is be yourself.” He also revealed he shops at Whole Foods and Central Market.

McConaughey, who born in Uvalde and grew up in Longview, first moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas.

“They love the lifestyle there,” an anonymous source told Us Weekly. “Matthew walks around town in a cowboy hat saying ‘Howdy!’ to everyone.”

No word yet on when he’ll be buying another set of bongo drums.

McConaughey next appears onscreen alongside Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine in Bernie. The film, based on a TEXAS MONTHLY story by Skip Hollandsworth, opens nationwide on April 27.
