JUNE 11: PRINCE Certainly, performances at the Grammys and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony haven’t hurt this masterful musician’s career, which has so often been driven by varying amounts of self-destruction and renaissance, however advertising this tour as his final all-hits roundup ought to bring in hard-core and passing fans alike. (Probably even the folks from his fanzine, Uptown, whom he threatened with a lawsuit in 1999, will make an appearance.) JUNE 23: LOS LONELY BOYS There’s nothing quite like help from a stranger, especially if that stranger is the Redheaded kind. Brothers Henry, JoJo, and Ringo Garza Jr (believe it or not, but Ringo’s the drummer) recorded their self-titled 2003 debut album at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales recording studio. After much success on the Texas music scene, the boys from San Angelo have exploded on national radio, giving them good cause to get on the road again. Gates open at 5. Free. JUNE 4-6: CROSSROADS GUITAR FESTIVAL The brainchild of Eric Clapton (to benefit Crossroads Centre Antigua, an organization that helps those battling addiction), this three-day affair begins with two days of retailer exhibits and guitar clinics and culminates with a blowout concert at the Cotton Bowl (at 2 p.m.) featuring some of the greatest guitar players of all time, including BB King, Carlos Santana, Jimmie Vaughan, Jerry Douglas, Eric Johnson, Doyle Bramhall II, Buddy Guy, Joe Walsh, Sonny Landreth, Pat Metheny, Robert Cray, Robert Randolph, Vince Gill, Neal Schon, and James Taylor.
