We must develop international trade corridors with the countries of Central and South America to ensure that Texas, both through sharp elbows and smarts, is the hub of global trade. In order to spark innovation and reward pioneers, I would also establish the Texas Eureka Award—a grant of $1 million for the most exciting new commercial idea of the year. Lastly, I would call for a statewide volunteer program by businesses to provide mentoring and intervention in the classroom, targeted at curbing high school dropouts and inspiring young Texans to think big!
