Good news, Longhorns! Big 12 favorite Oklahoma opens its season against the University of Texas at El Paso Saturday, and while Mike Price’s team is likely to be overmatched against the Sooners, UTEP president Diana Natalicio is confident. A little trash-talky, even, by college presidential standards.
As Jason Kersey of the Oklahoman reported, Natalicio talked about the game with her University of Texas-Austin counterpart William Powers at last week’s UT system Board of Regents meeting.
Wrote Kersey:
“I told the president of UT-Austin that we’d do our best to ensure that Oklahoma would be not as competitive after they left El Paso, because we will have shown them a surprise,” Natalicio said with a laugh.
Miners head coach Mike Price is not so bold, of course.
“They have no weaknesses,” Price said, as Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso Times reported. “We have not found a soft spot where we think, ‘Maybe we can exploit this.’ Nothing.”
According to Gene Wojciechowski of ESPN.com, who picked up Kersey’s item and dubbed Natalicio the “BMOP (Big Man on Podium)”, the Sooners are a 31-point favorite.
Price is hoping that the Sun Bowl will sell out, something that hasn’t happened since UT was the opponent there four years ago.
