Move over H-Town! The 409 is representing, as the little town of Vidor has its very own boosters in hip-hop artists DJ Santana and T-Rey. Their song, “Vidor Anthem,” has become a modest YouTube hit over the past two months, with close to 36,000 views and rising.

Julie Chang of the Beaumont Enterprise reported that the two friends–real names, Shawn Santana and Trey Jenkins–cut the track using a $100 microphone a few months back. The song also features rapper Lenny C.

“We’re just trying to give our town a better name,” Jenkins told Chang, referring, of course, to the town’s historically racist reputation, including being called “Texas’ most hate-filled town” on the cover of TEXAS MONTHLY‘s 1993 December issue.

DJ Santana’s original MySpace bio expresses similar sentiments:

I’M FROM VIDOR,TX ITS A SMALL TOWN IN THE 409 AREA I LIVED HERE MY WHOLE LIFE. I DECIDED TO TRY TO CHANGE THE BACKGROUND OF VIDOR I WANT TO PUT THE WHOLE 409 AND THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE ON THE MAP…

Disclaimer: The video version of the song includes profanity, but there is a clean version available, as well:

At least one fan on DJ Santana’s Facebook page fell for the track enough to demand merch:
