In an earlier version of “The Final Days of Tom Craddick: Plan B,” I noted that a comment sent by an anonymous reader read like professional opposition research against Brian McCall from a professional political shop and that HillCo partners had been promoting Tom Craddick’s candidacy for speaker. I have since heard from HillCo principals who said, variously and “uniquivocally,” that the firm did not do opposition research and to do so in a speakers’ race would be an illegal contribution. My phrasing was not appropriate in that it allowed readers to infer that HillCo was behind the research, and I have no knowledge of that. I regret causing embarrassment to my friends at HillCo. The article has been corrected and reposted.–pb
