Keri Blakinger is an ex-Texan who has covered jails and prisons for the Houston Chronicle, the Marshall Project, and the Los Angeles Times. Her work has also appeared in Vice, the New York Times, the Washington Post Magazine and NBC News, where she wrote a column blending current criminal-justice issues with her firsthand experience with the prison system. She is the author of the 2022 memoir Corrections in Ink and one day dreams of moving back to Texas.
