Lockhart

November 5-6, 2022

Texas Monthly BBQ Fest’s first year in Lockhart was a success! With a backdrop of the historic Caldwell County Courthouse, the inaugural BBQ World’s Fair welcomed seven barbecue joints, four stops on the Taco Trail, 33 vendors across the marketplace and Live Fire Lane, over 20 ‘local happenings’ at downtown businesses, five live music acts on a stage, and much more. From noon until sundown, thousands of attendees of all ages shopped, danced, tasted, and explored the big, wide world of Texas barbecue.

At Sunday’s Top 50 Picnic, lines for VIP entry started early. On the grassy fields at Lockhart City Park, 45 barbecue joints convened to share their talents—38 of which brought impressive rigs for the ultimate barbecue show-and-tell. The live music stage welcome three acts: Sir Woman, Jenny and the Corn Ponies, and Al Dressen’s Super Swing Revue.

Pit Stop Events

June 16, 2022 • August 18, 2022

Leading up to the festival in Lockhart, Texas Monthly launched two summertime Pit Stop events to bring a taste of BBQ Fest to more corners of Texas.

At Truth BBQ in Houston, multiple barbecue joints collaborated on a hearty family-style dinner for 100 guests alongside TM barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn. Before the meal, guests enjoyed a whole hog cooking demo. Featured barbecue joints included: Feges BBQ, Gatlin’s BBQ, Pinkerton’s Barbecue, and Truth BBQ. Click here to see photos.

At Heim Barbecue (River Location), west of Fort Worth, four barbecue joints collaborated on a seated family-style dinner for 200 guests, where each course told a story connected to the pitmaster who created it. Before the meal, guests enjoyed a live demo about rib preparation, paired with rib tastings from all joints. Featured barbecue joints included: Heim Barbecue, Goldee’s Barbecue, Panther City BBQ, and Dayne’s Craft Barbecue. Click here to see photos.
