
Orange-Zest Biscuits
From Nellie Connally.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2½ teaspoons baking powder
- 5 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- zest of 1 orange, grated or finely chopped
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup orange juice
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening and then stir in orange zest.
- Combine milk and orange juice, add to flour mixture, and stir with a fork until dough is fairly free from sides of bowl, no more than half a minute.
- Pat dough out ¾ inch thick on a lightly floured surface and cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter.
- Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
