Handshakes to make in Bandera, Texas, Cowboy Capital of the World

No. 1 Kelly Scott

If you’ve been to Bandera on a Saturday afternoon in the last several years you may have seen Kelly sitting on his camp stool next to his chuck wagon in front of the Bandera County Courthouse.  You might have thought how odd it is because there is no fire in the fire ring or skillets filled with food.  Actually it’s not odd at all.  He is an active participant in the Bandera Business Association’s Cowboys on Main program, designed to give visitors to Bandera a glimpse of authentic cowboy ways.  So normally Kelly hauls his wagon from his ranch to town several times a month and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm he’s there to share with folks the importance of the chuck wagon during the cattle drive days.

Over the years Kelly has made many friends all over the world.  He’s worked at many of the area dude ranches, shod countless horses in Bandera County,  and even provided wagons for movies, including The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.  Plan on visiting for a while. The conversation will be lively, the cowboy wisdom top-notch, and you might even get a few recipes.
