Ten Must Do Activities in Big Bend

No. 6 Marathon Post Park

This County Park 5 miles south of Marathon was once Camp Pena Colorado, a military outpost established in 1879 to protect the proposed route of the transcontinental railroad from marauding Apaches.

A prolific spring makes an inviting haven for wildlife; it is one of the best bird watching sites in the state. The park is known for its al fresco country dances, with a huge dance floor canopied by majestic shade trees.
