Tour the Museum of the Big Bend. Head to the Museum of the Big Bend on the Sul Ross campus for the real story of the region covering natural history, human history and the confluence of cultures in what is known as the Borderlands. I like to head downstairs to look over the extensive collection of maps. If you’re the least bit curious, it’s worth booking a group tour in advance to get the big picture on the Big Bend. The annual Trappings of Texas exhibit and sale of western art and fine custom gear is showcased at the Museum during April and May, and is the oldest exhibit of its kind in the nation.
