The Prairie View A&M Panthers. With a 64—0 loss to Grambling, Prairie View set an all-time collegiate football record by losing its fifty-first straight game, a streak that is now at 57 and counting.

Jim Hightower. The former state agriculture commissioner and critic of corporations was dumped by ABC Radio as host of a nationwide talk show. The cancellation came six weeks after a merger announcement between ABC’s parent company and Walt Disney, about which Hightower had informed his listeners, “I work for a rodent.”

Lance Lalor. The former Houston comptroller was charged with misdemeanor theft for trying to take pea salad and a scone from a University of Washington food court. The total cost of the two items was around $4.

Molly Ivins. She apologized to satirist Florence King after King accused her of plagiarism for not attributing three sentences in a 1988 article. Wrote King: “She credits me on minor observations, but when the subject is politics—her turf—she plagiarizes me.”

Susan Powter. The Queen of Lean filed for personal bankruptcy, blaming her hard times on differences with partners in Dallas-based Susan Powter Corp. “I may have made a bazillion dollars this year,” she said, “but the corporation got the money.”
