The Obama campaign gave Rick Perry a warm welcome to Colorado over the weekend by creating a minute-and-a-half ad spot containing snippets of the Texas governor slamming Romney during the primary campaign.

The soundbites were spliced from the debates and television interviews, and included Perry calling Romney a “vulture capitalist” and claiming the Massachusetts governor’s record as a job creator was not so strong.

As Jana Kasperkevic pointed out at the Houston Chronicle‘s Texas on the Potomac blog, the ad ends with the text “Welcome to Colorado, Governor Perry. We couldn’t agree with you more:”

On Sunday, Perry attended events in Colorado Springs and at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo before ending the day in Reno. On Monday he had three stops around Nevada scheduled. Arlette Saenz of ABC News noted that Perry previously stumped for Romney in Nevada in July.

According to Mitchell Landsberg of the Los Angeles Times that Perry made a dark joke in Colorado Springs about another reason to get to the polls early:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry spoke to Romney campaign workers in Colorado Springs, urging them not to let up in the last 16 days of the campaign — and to make sure they persuade people to vote early if possible.

After all, Perry said with a sly grin, “You never know when the good Lord’s going to come and take you home.”
