In Rick Perry’s latest campaign ad, which has drawn a lot of heat from his critics, the governor says, “There’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.”

In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Perry, who is “very comfortable with that ad,” reiterated his concern with the War on Christmas. “Why can {our children} not celebrate Christmas?” he asked Wolf.

As Tommy Christopher at Mediate, pointed out, the governor has “happy holidays skeletons in his closet,” and Perry embraced a faith-neutral approach in his official 2008 “Holiday Greeting.”

In the governor’s official holiday message in 2003 (pictured above) his office also wished the state “Happy Holidays,” as Bud Kennedy of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram tweeted.
