It was another hugely successful year for the Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market! More than 104,600 shoppers made their way to NRG for the four-day holiday shopping extravaganza, with merchandise sales exceeding $19 million.
The 37th annual Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market kicked off on Wednesday, November 8 with the coveted Wells Fargo Preview Party followed by the general admission opening on Thursday and ending on Sunday, November 12, 2017. This year’s Market, chaired by longtime volunteer Myrna Fisch, was themed Rockin’ and Shoppin’ as an ode to the 1950s.
Throughout the Market, a series of special events were held including the Wells Fargo Preview Party, the Saks Fifth Avenue Fashion Show and Luncheon, and the Macy’s Fashion Show and Luncheon. This year’s Market welcomed 280 merchants from across the U.S., with 53 merchants making their big debut. New merchants included Wreaths by Mary, Two Tequila Sisters, Doggie Express, Eat Drink Host and more.
Spotted were large groups of shoppers donning matching holiday themed outfits as they perused the more than 540,000 square feet of holiday décor, gourmet food, toys, apparel, novelty items, accessories, gifts and more. Shoppers also enjoyed food and drinks as they shopped, including the signature mimosa served in a special Nutcracker Market cup.
In its 37th year, the Nutcracker Market continues to provide support for the Houston Ballet, its Academy and scholarship programs. Ten percent of merchandise sales and proceeds from ticket sales directly benefit the Houston Ballet Foundation. Since its inception in 1981, the Nutcracker Market has raised more than $57 million for the Houston Ballet Foundation.
