What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared, non-surgical fat reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. Areas such as upper arms, thighs, double chin and abdomen, are just some of the areas that are ideal to target with this fat-freezing procedure. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction procedure, unlike liposuction, that requires virtually no downtime!
How Does it Work?
CoolSculpting works by delivering precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. The idea that cold can target fat cells – without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue – was the insight behind cryolipolysis, the proven science on which the CoolSculpting procedure is based. Treated fat cells are crystalized (frozen), then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted appearance. CoolSculpting freezes and eliminates stubborn fat for good!
Is CoolSculpting Right for Me?
The ideal candidate for CoolSculpting is someone who is at or near their ideal weight, is physically fit, and just needs to target specific areas with stubborn fat. CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss procedure. Good candidates for CoolSculpting may have noticeable bulges in certain areas that are resistance to their efforts of diet and exercise.
“I always like to say ‘If we can squeeze it, we can freeze it!’ says Lisa Mojezati Platon, a physician assistant at Sona Dermatology & MedSpa’s Northpark location in Dallas. Almost everyone has a fat bulge that we can treat. The best candidate though is someone who already follows a healthy diet and exercise routine and maintains a healthy weight.”
“I want it!” – so where should I get it?
It is important to know that just because a medspa offers the CoolSculpting procedure doesn’t necessarily mean it will be administered correctly. You need to make sure that anyone who administers the procedure is trained and certified specifically in CoolSculpting. Also important to know that CoolSculpting is the only FDA-cleared fat-freezing technique so be wary of other procedures on the market that are not FDA-cleared. Providers such as Sona Dermatology & MedSpa offer a medically trained and CoolSculpting certified staff, which is a must when looking into any cosmetic procedure. In addition, you need a provider who cares about your individual needs.
“When searching for a provider, it is important to find someone who listens to and understands your concerns,” says Platon. “What’s important to one person may not be important to the next, so a great provider should base your treatment plan on the goals you have for your body.”
