Want to enjoy fall in the great outdoors? Just take the Brenham exit off 290 to enjoy a change of pace. Relax under huge oak trees surrounding Downtown Brenham’s Courthouse and stroll down to visit Toubin Park, a lovely pocket park with its own cistern commemorating the history of the unique fire-fighting cistern system in Brenham.

Near Downtown, take a seat to watch the kids laugh and play in Brenham’s Texas Legacy Fireman’s Park. The fully restored Flying Horses Antique Carousel and a military jet fighter are displayed nearby. In the same area, find a skateboard park, and next to the library, a shaded children’s play area and lovely Serenity Garden.

Stroll the parks in Washington County.

A short drive away, get up close and personal to the beautiful alpacas at Peeka Ranch. Or watch the oxen work at Barrington Plantation State Historic Site. Pause in Independence at the Antique Rose Emporium, a noted eight-acre garden where anyone can gain inspiration, and check out the stark columns that mark where Baylor University began. Don’t miss the Texas Cotton Gin Museum in Burton, home of the oldest operating cotton gin in the country, and visit historic buildings in Chappell Hill.
