Trent Shaskan’s Icon Bread, beloved for the best sourdough loaves in town, has a new home in a cafe/market he helms with wife-partner Dena Shaskan, whose work at Café Modern earned national attention. Her tomato-curry-coconut soup with garbanzos is the ideal pairing for the roasted eggplant-and-tomato sandwich on Trent’s bread, with provolone and tapenade. But don’t pass up the pork pozole verde, nor the chicken salad with red grapes and the puff pastry quiche. Eat in or grab salads, soups, sandwiches, and charcuterie from refrigerated cases, along with carefully curated wines and beers. Check out the tearoom in one corner, which doubles as a culinary studio for a series of cooking classes.
