Hungering for a well-plated CFS? Fried shrimp? Maybe a piled-high Reuben? Look no more. The trendiest new spots can’t match this diner for breadth of menu or bang for your buck. Owner Dean Bardi has a thing for filling folks up, as well as his menu (75 entrées) and space (chockablock full of memorabilia). Just inside Loop 410, he does it all in a curvy deco room that fills up night and day with Loop-landers seeking a good deal and fast lunch service. We relished the Grilled Chicken California, a pounded breast with a garlic-lemon butter sauce and a smattering of fresh diced veggies. Alongside, our choices from the daily veggie blackboard: mashed potatoes and bright green, perfectly steamed fresh spinach. The selections may be classic (green beans, mac and cheese, squash casserole, and the like), but the prep is modern—no overcooked mush here.
