Dining Guide

Alicia’s Burrito Place

The locals know where the good food is, and in this part of Texas that usually means Tex-Mex. It seems as if everything these folks turn out is wonderful. As the name suggests, burritos are the specialty, and they are in great demand at breakfast, items like the Trashcan (with absolutely everything) and the Heart Attack—you get the idea. On our last visit the one waitress, despite full tables, screaming children, and a ringing phone, was amazingly cheerful and friendly. For lunch there are enchiladas both red and green, more burritos, and (our favorite) the asado plate; the tender bites of meat loll in a deep-red chile sauce with a pile of fresh lettuce and tomato and one of the best pairs of beans and rice around. Not content with putting all that in front of you, the kitchen also includes hand-cut fries and toasted flour tortillas.
