This location is one of four Bakery Lorraines in the city, and it exudes a particularly serene, Zen-like calm both inside the dining room and out on the patio, all amid busy Medical Center hustle and bustle. Whether it’s just a decadent pastry on a break or a lunchtime sandwich that towers with flavor, carefully sourced vegetables and grains make their mark, hallmarks of Jeremy Mandrell and Anne Ng, who met while working at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery. At lunch it’s fun to mix it up, sharing a couple of sandwiches, perhaps braised beets with feta on toast and the exceptional BL BLT, with pancetta, tomato, and avocado front and center. Delectable breakfasts include croque-madames and, of course, quiche lorraine.
