Despite its absurd name, the food game is solid at the newly transformed Wild Acre Brewing on Camp Bowie. Chef David Hollister, renowned for the sandwiches he created at Wild Acre, is still hard at work in the kitchen, serving up items like the Hot Italian Grilled Cheese, which layers braised Wagyu shoulder, pepperoncini and Calabrian chiles, and smoked provolone and Muenster cheeses on sourdough. Shareables like roasted piquillo chiles packed with shredded beef, goat cheese crumbles, and basil-pecan pesto go down nicely with clever cocktail creations. And there’s no better cheesecake in town than the Meyer lemon and Madagascar vanilla (pair it with one of the fine port choices). A nice patio is perfect for come-as-you-are, kid-friendly gatherings.
