Out of the ordinary, this Midtown charmer is positively Parisian, from its romantic decor to its house-made éclair. Owner Karine Favre-Massartic exudes hospitality, and her kitchen is spot-on with a menu of curated French classics. She has quite a following for her French afternoon tea, but dinner is a treat as well. We felt downright classy sipping champagne from an antique coupe glass and noshing on Les Escargots Gougères: bite-size cheese puffs with escargots, drizzled with luxurious garlic butter. Boeuf bourguignon is a fine rendition, tender beef in red wine gravy with mushrooms, pearl onions, and carrots, and the “burger,” the Mac Couac Couac, features a puff pastry bun layered with pulled duck confit, melted sharp cheddar, jalapeño jam, and a generous crown of micro-greens. The unlikely pièce de résistance? Les Frites Poêtes: thin wedges, perfectly crisp and creamy, dusted with seasoned salt.
