Carp’s at the Magnolia

Katrina Carpenter’s soulful cooking gets an elevated treatment in this Near Southside wine bar, where Leon Bridges is known to stop by. Served on a giant board, feather-light fried wontons serve as the foundation for Asian-style nachos adorned with crunchy slaw, sweet chile sauce, queso blanco, and a scattering of flash-fried shrimp. The slider topped with pimento and fresh jalapeño got high marks. Crispy baguette toasts smeared with spicy smashed avocado and sliced baby tomatoes are a virtuous snack.
