With six locations across Houston and ample portions of Szechuan peppercorn–laced specialties and mainstream Asian fare, casual Pepper Twins has become a family favorite for takeout. Order this to go: spicy garlic cucumber salad made with crisp Persian cucumbers; the jumbo shrimp stir-fry with ginger and broccoli alongside perfectly steamed rice; and any of the sautéed vegetables; we chose the fine whole bok choy with sliced garlic in vegetable sauce. Adventurous eaters should consider the Mr. & Mrs. Smith appetizer—chilled sliced beef shank and tripe with celery and peanuts—or the Pepper Twins Chicken entrée, kicked up with Thai chiles, scallions, garlic, ginger, bell pepper, and the slow burn of peppercorns.
