Old meets new on the Strand. The latest entry into the Hearsay restaurant family (the others are in Houston) rests inside a classic Nicholas Clayton building built in the 1890s. Deeming itself “chic antique,” the restaurant offers a hearty American menu with something for just about everyone, from chicken-fried steak made with New York strip and served with poblano mashed potatoes to braised short ribs so tender they fall apart if you look at them. The chicken breast, stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, and tender sun-dried tomatoes, comes in an assertive whole-grain mustard sauce, while cheesecake in a pert strawberry sauce ends the meal on a classic note.
