You know you’re in serious red-meat territory when half a pound of marinated steak cubes is an appetizer and the menu carries the disclaimer “We do not guarantee that a well done steak will be tender.” Order this to go: No meaty offering at this family-owned spot weighs less than eight ounces. Our filet arrived robed in bacon, perfectly medium-rare and succulent. The KC Steaks, a house specialty, are deliciously impressive, as is the ribeye. Even the chicken-fried steak was tender under its coating of crispy batter. Grilled wild-caught salmon was also excellent, and the spicy rémoulade is good on everything. Jalapeño-cheddar mashed potatoes was the universal favorite side. Pro tip: This place is über-casual and sometimes clamorous.
