Dining Guide
Jack Allen’s Kitchen
This popular Austin spot is family friendly and approachable. Order this to go: The chicken-fried chicken dinner—with steamed seasonal vegetables and creamy mashed potatoes with green chile gravy—sets the home-cooked tone. We were also pleased with how well the fish tacos traveled; the tender grilled tilapia came wrapped in perfectly steamed corn tortillas and was delicious with a perky jalapeño coleslaw. Black beans and rice studded with sweet corn and green onions makes a great side. Ready-made cocktails include a slushy frozen margarita, which tasted fresh from the bar. Pro tip: The system is down to a science. Make a quick phone call (online ordering will be available soon), and allow 20 to 30 minutes before picking up your order.
