Our spirits soared just entering this charming 100-year-old-home-turned-cafe. From the shady porch to the modern interior, the white bungalow has been beautifully renovated. With a vaulted ceiling, blond wood beams, and walls bathed in sunlight, the cozy lounge and dining area made a cheery perch for breakfast. Order at the counter, where baristas whip up more than four dozen coffee and tea drinks. The avocado toast rivals the best we’ve had: dense artisan bread spread thick with lemony avocado mash sprinkled with chile flakes. A breakfast empanada, humongous chocolate chip cookie, and other goodies supplement the limited toast menu. The staff is composed of teens who have aged out of the foster care system. Kind cafe, indeed.
