Dining Guide
Lowbrow
Mockingbird Bistro chef John Sheely has settled in at this comfortable spot, bringing his famous burger with him (at $16, with the option of a $9 foie gras add-on). But an array of shareable snacks and small plates keeps the menu casual and modestly priced. A pile of large, perfectly fried oysters dijonnaise and tender beef short ribs with horseradish mashed potatoes got thumbs up from our group. Equally fine was the full-bodied spicy gazpacho with sweet peppers. We liked the smoked bacon and crème fraîche on our deviled eggs but wished for a bit more “devil” (mustard), and our bowl of huge mussels had a great wine, tomato, and sausage broth, though the critters themselves proved a bit sinewy. Nice service and a pleasant outdoor deck.
