This airy, open, second-story dining room within the super-posh Hotel Alessandra marks another welcome entry in the often shaky downtown restaurant scene. Our samplings from the wide-ranging menu from chef Jose Hernandez (lately of Radio Milano) involved some lovely vegetables: a crudité salad with miniature carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, and cauliflower with a cilantro-mustard cream and a cheesy butternut squash risotto topped with a soft egg. Our seafood choices ranged from a slab of halibut that was a bit dry to nigh perfect scallops with wild mushrooms, fennel, and saffron to lobster with fennel bread pudding and beurre blanc. We had no complaints with the ribeye adorned with a rich bordelaise and bone marrow. Fine desserts made for a sweet ending (though we soured more than a bit with the $25 surprise valet parking fee on the way out).
