Madden’s Casual Gourmet
Since 2004, Madden’s has offered upscale dining in a lovely, historic downtown Bryan location, casual enough for a bite after an A&M game yet elegant enough for a romantic dinner for two. Sixteen years later, you can still get a very good meal here, even if the wow factor that for years defined the kitchen’s output occasionally goes missing, as was recently demonstrated by both the lukewarm temperature of our entrées and a “blackened” mahimahi that, though covered in Cajun spices, did not show any evidence of having been near a hot fire. Our tenderloin filet, though, was expertly prepared; scrumptious fried macaroni and cheese made for a fun side. Our desserts was likewise spot-on: mini portions of a raspberry–chocolate truffle tart and blackberry bread pudding, as well as a generous slice of chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream icing and house-made ice cream.
