Brothers Mundo and Carlos Villapudua have expanded their restaurant empire (Villa Montez and 1836) to the former home of Mama and her fried pies. We caught them at soft opening stage and were delighted with the kick-back vibe, indoor and outdoor seating, and menu of burgers, dogs, and East Texas comfort foods (think steaks and shrimp and grits). We settled for a juicy burger and crispy fries— delish. And if we had any sorrows, we could have drowned them in one of the craft cocktails.
