My Name Is Joe
Back in the eighties, downtown executives had so-called power breakfasts and lunches in high-rise buildings. They still do, of course, but My Name Is Joe has an Austin state of mind. It’s an Airstream serving coffee and morning-type food that you eat at a picnic table while checking your email. The menu has a healthy orientation, its seven (so far) terrific offerings including brown rice porridge (with a poached egg, kimchi, and bulgogi-seasoned tofu) and almond butter toast (with apple jam and miso butterscotch). There’s also smoked-salmon toast, which works nicely at lunch. Drink options include horchata, cold brew, and a mind-blowing turmeric latte made with coconut milk. The man behind the operation is chef Philip Speer, who is donating part of the proceeds to benefit addiction treatment.
