This hip new Monte Vista spot might be on the “periphery” as far as location, but it’s dead center when it comes to food. Flavor profiles (think Mediterranean meets U.S. Southern coast) hit the mark with such dishes as crunchy lentil salad with avocado and sumac, smoky barbecue catfish with green-tomato relish, and a flank steak with a chimichurri-inspired broccoli salsa. Don’t-try-this-at-home techniques (the cooked, dried, and fried lentils in that salad, for example) add the spin and prove the culinary skills. Chef Mark Weaver runs a tidy operation inside the dining room and out on the patio (along with his skilled staff).
