Dining Guide
Pling
A Korean dumpling house, Pling (the last four letters of “dumpling”) has opened in Midtown with a flourish. Expect a well-lighted place, with plenty of parking and a handsome modernist/East Asian design. Pling has a limited menu at present; there are eight varieties of dumpling and a couple of steamed buns. And because this is a Korean spot, you can expect some heat. Order this to go: Overall, we preferred the pan-fried and steamed dumplings, though we relished the crispy Korean fried chicken with a sweet-spicy sauce. The pan-fried pork-and-caramelized-onion dumplings were satisfying, as were the steamed pork-and-shrimp (with tails protruding for easy lifting). The chicken cilantro gained zip from a zesty vinegary dipping sauce Pro tip: There’s no way to order online except through a delivery service. Pickups must be phoned in, and payment is taken indoors. Thanks to ingenious packaging, the food travels exceptionally well.
