Dining Guide

San Daniele

Classics get a contemporary treatment at this smart, fresh place. If we had to pick favorites, they would be the supple ravioli (stuffed with lump crab and mascarpone and brightened with bits of asparagus and spinach, lightly bound in lemon butter sauce) and the veal marsala (paper-thin slices of meat with cremini mushrooms in a wine-butter-parsley sauce). Simplicity was never more impressive than in the thick rustic bread brushed with olive oil and garlic, grilled, and spread with house-made ricotta. Guests pack the upstairs bar and balcony patio for happy hour, and rightly so: special grazing plates for sharing, such as Prince Edward Island mussels in a lemon-wine bath and plump meatballs in a robust marinara make the perfect early supper, one best enjoyed along with a sunset toast.
