Second Bar + Kitchen [Domain Northside]
The open dining room in the new Archer Hotel, with its window walls and sky-high ceiling, is far more than Second’s second location. For one thing, it offers a compelling breakfast menu, in which even a simple fruit plate becomes an artistic statement. Ours arrived with charred berries and pineapple, house-made granola, and lush dollops of vanilla–poppy seed yogurt. For a main dish, we opted for French toast, featuring brioche “sticks” perfectly coated in a crisp, sugary crust and lightly drizzled with a maple syrup reduction. Next was a very un-Austin version of breakfast tacos, a small cast-iron pot filled with lusciously gooey layers of baked eggs, cheese, chorizo, black beans, avocado, and sour cream.
