Just a couple of years ago, an enterprising entrepreneur with a family full of New Orleans connections opened this shrine to the crab boil. Now there are franchisees elsewhere in the city and even Tennessee, but Smashin Crab still offers a true Crescent City experience, from the requisite bibs and butcher paper–topped tables to an authentic muffuletta, with bread imported from Gambino’s. Butter-based boil sauces for the mix-and-match options (in-season shrimp, lobster, crab, crawdads) are delicious (five choices and seven heat levels). Add Cajun-spiced french fries and a little zydeco and that’s that.
