Southside BBQ

Alva Zulauf and his wife Chris have operated a barbecue catering company for a long while, but it’s just been in the last three years that they settled into this permanent, year round location along Highway 16. Southside BBQ knows its place in the barbecue world. It’s menu, cooking style, and setting are emblematic of the small town Hill Country barbecue joint. It’s certainly worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood.

We hunt in Cherokee every year and always eat here a few time while out there. Good right up and spot on. Did you try the french fries by any chance? Or the burger? Both great options for a change of pace of the BBQ.

  • I don’t know where this writer came from…mabe Coopers down the road…but I will pass by Coopers any day for this friendly super BBQ and smoked meats any day. No second thoughts period.

South side no longer serves burgers and fries and, unfortunately, we never had them when they did. We FREQUENTLY arrange the timing of our Holt-to-Buda trips to include a visit to Southside. Great BBQ & service.

Cutting a brisket the wrong way and cooking over direct heat makes me question whether or not I’ll stop there.

French fries and hamburgers are back on the menu.
