The Butcher Shop
Though our usual motivation to visit this Longview favorite is the reliably good burger, we arrived on the cusp of breakfast and lunchtime, allowing for an order of waffles, eggs, and bacon followed by a visit to the fruit bar—just the ticket—and, for a change of pace, a chicken-fried steak with a side of cut-in-house fries and, of course, the to-die-for yeast rolls. The restaurant does a fine job with diner fare, but it’s the bakery that truly stands out. It is impossible to leave without a month’s worth of delectable treats; we loaded up on bread, cupcakes, and a pie (or maybe two—we’re not telling).
