The Central Station
This place is housed in a former Texaco service station (circa 1930) downtown, a 3,600-square-foot building that has been restored (but with the original storefront) and now features an upstairs deck. Trusting our car, oops, no, our tummies to the men and women who wear the star, we were thrilled with the margherita pizza and the savory pork tenderloin, wrapped in prosciutto, and served with deeply Southern collard greens (did we detect a hint of bacon drippings?), buttery creamed corn, and blueberry compote. Just for fun we asked for a side of yellow-tomato coulis and finished it all off with a slice of pomegranate cheesecake and a root beer float.
