Restaurateur Benjy Levit has transformed Benjy’s on Washington into this spacious diner serving elevated American favorites peppered with international influences. Of the many enticing starters, our favorite was the lamb meatballs served in a spicy tomato sauce along with grilled bread. For mains, one in our group went with the porterhouse pork chop served with sauerkraut, roasted potatoes, and bacon butter, while another chose the brown sugar–grilled salmon poised over yogurt sauce, marinated beets, and pickled red onions—both delicious. A huge bowl of casarecce pasta, a rich combo of lion’s mane mushrooms, chèvre, spinach, pancetta, and fresh herbs, was perfect to share. Interior details include a separate bar area, counter seating facing the kitchen, roomy booths, a civilized noise level, and help-yourself candy at the exit.
